Caring for your new lawn

These are our recommendations for making your investment in a new lawn pay off for years to come.

Watering

It is crucial to water your new lawn frequently enough to keep it and the dirt below moist at all times. Avoid heavy use of the lawn for 2-3 weeks.

After the lawn is well-established, water it at a minimum of 4 to 7 day intervals. Water until one inch of water has accumulated in a flat container placed on the lawn. This is the total amount of time needed each week to ensure the lawn is watered to a depth of 4 to 6 inches.

Water during daylight hours, as evening watering may create fungus problems.

Fertilization

Your lawn must be fertilized 30 days after installation, regardless of which month it is. The fertilizer used should have a complete balance of nutrients.

Apply 8 lbs. per 1000 square feet in February and November, and then 6 lbs. per 1000 square feet every four weeks BETWEEN February and November.

When growth is progressing rapidly, fertilizer is essential to the health of your lawn.

Overseeding

To help maintain a dense, weed-free turf, we recommend occasionally overseeding, in September or April, using 4 to 6 lbs. of seed per 1000 square feet or lawn. See your garden center for seed to match your sod, or call our office for a recommendation.

Mowing

Mow your lawn to a height of 1 to 1.5 inches. Never cut more than 1/3 of total height off at one time. We recommend bagging and removing all clippings.
